Wesleyan Tutors Support SAWA English Language Learners

In the fall of 2020, and again in 2021, the Education Studies Department at Wesleyan University partnered with SAWA to provide much needed tutoring in English and Math to K-12 students at SAWA. Sarah Kieffer and Carrie Berman worked closely with Prof. Beth Hepford and the students of “TESOL” to provide individual online tutoring. Students received help with their homework, played online learning games, practiced conversation skills, and even sang songs and exercised with their tutors. When the semester ended, many tutors continued with their learners under the guidance of the Wes ELL Tutors student organization. Local high school and other college students joined as tutors, too. We hope that tutors and learners can continue to study, bond, and have fun together in the future!
